Clowes Park Outdoor Fitness, Salford City Council

The new area is situated in front of the children’s play area fence line, adjacent to the walkway and overlooking the lake. The main goal of this area was to add some outdoor fitness to an already busy park area, with the walk around the lake being the only exercise option for anyone over the age of 16. Being in close proximity to the children’s play area and existing footpath, the area is situated to cater to all age groups and abilities and provide easy access to an outdoor gym.

Due to space constraints, the equipment selection had to be specific on this design as the fall zones had to be carefully considered due to the space available on site. A linear fashion was the obvious choice with an intended flow between the equipment. Calisthenics on one end to aid mobility and core strength, cardio in the middle with various moving parts for all abilities and finally strength and form training with the magnetic bells. We’d selected various units from our Pro range for this site, arm bike, city bike and cross trainer that all feature personalisation via Bluetooth with our KOMPAN fitness app. Resistance can be adjusted and workout statistics recorded all in real time while using each piece of kit.

This project emphasised an ongoing relationship with Salford City Council to enhance and improve the fitness within Salford to combat rising rates of obesity. Inclusivity and accessibility for all ages and abilities are key to the principles and delivery of these projects.

The introduction of this new area has already seen an increase in activity with the council expecting to see even more visitors, creating a happier and healthier community in Salford.
