Southfields Park Fitness Zone, Charnwood Borough Council
Council partnered with Loughborough University to develop new community fitness
Charnwood Borough Council partnered with , the top sporting university in the world, to develop a new KOMPAN community fitness zone suitable for all abilities and ages.
They both approached KOMPAN to explore options for improving an underused fitness facility in their busy town centre park which would remain alongside. Having delivered several fitness and play schemes for the council in recent years, the highly accessible, adjustable and robust product range available from KOMPAN was immediately identified as their best solution.
The council required a new fitness zone which improved on the existing underused facility, whilst the university needed a site which could measurably improve the health and wellbeing of the local community. It also needed to cater for a significant user capacity to enable fitness and mobility classes to be run by council providers.
Through establishing all the desired outcomes for the customers, careful product selection to avoid duplication with the existing provision, and considerate layout and colour choices to compliment the surroundings, a final design was approved which offers a truly functional workout space for all users.
The provision of these new and exciting fitness units provides exactly what both the council and university had hoped for. The site has seen a huge footfall since its installation, with well attended classes being run by the council.
Due to the site catering for such a range of ages and abilities, the positive impact on the health and wellbeing of users is incredibly far reaching across the community from athletes to those at the beginning of their fitness journey as well as users with various mobility challenges.
Breaking down further barriers to fitness
The documented feedback from users has been extremely positive from fitness enthusiasts to members of the community who had wanted to improve their fitness for years but had many reservations about joining a traditional gym. The unique KOMPAN app has broken down further barriers to fitness for many users including those who do not use English as a first language through the detailed video demonstrations.
