Albert Park Outdoor Fitness, Salford City Council

This area is situated in the south of the park, opposite the children’s play area, with a large sports pitch complex behind it. Using existing groundworks from a previous fitness area, the design transformed from a semi-circle to a more uniform rectangle with units strategically positioned for maximum practicality. The main focus of this area was to revamp the existing equipment with more functionality, features and accessible units for all age groups and abilities, to ensure a full and worthwhile fitness workout.

The layout of the equipment allows you to plan your workout areas as you move through the area. The magnetic bells and multi climbing net require arm and leg strength areas with lifting external and body weight. Moving into the Combi unit which offers elements of cross training and the option of bringing your own additional aids to enhance your workout. Finally, the cardio and strength area featuring the pro range; sports bike, arm bike and pull down which all offer connectivity via Bluetooth to our KOMPAN fitness app, to change resistance and see your calories burnt, time working, distance, reps and speed all from your phone. We selected these pieces of equipment with what was lacking previously in mind.

This project emphasised an ongoing relationship with Salford City Council to enhance and improve the fitness within Salford to combat rising rates of obesity. Inclusivity and accessibility for all ages and abilities are key to the principles and delivery of these projects.

The introduction of this new area has already seen an increase in activity with the council expecting to see even more visitors, creating a happier and healthier community in Salford.
