This project was funded through NHS and other funding streams. The prime objective was to create a space for the older generation to be able to get active and have a space for rehabilitation with low impact. The NHS and Tendring District Council worked together with the local centre nearby.

KOMPAN engaged with the council at the very beginning and worked closely with them to create a suitable design that met the needs of the community, and would also benefit the physio and rehab departments within the NHS.

Working closely with the council we were able to collaborate and develop an incredible space with a huge variety of activities for all ages and abilities. The accessible pathways and hardstanding areas as well as equipment choices has meant this is a truly inclusive outdoor space.

The steel equipment benefits from coastal protection which protects the equipment from the salt air and ensures it will be a long lasting and a low maintenance facility.

There was a well attended opening event with a personal trainer to demonstrate the equipment. They have since received funding to run taster and engagement sessions beyond the opening.

Colours chosen to benefit Dementia and Alzheimers sufferers

A key part of this scheme was to ensure it was inclusive, and for those with reduced mobility to build up their strength and be active. The colours in particular were chosen to benefit users suffering with Dementia and Alzheimers. The red and yellow surfacing is distinguishable against the backdrop of the green grass and blue sea which are key to the coastal location of the equipment.
