Byagården Preschool

Byagården Preschool is located on the outskirts of Ljungby and has around 140 children aged between 1 and 5. When it was time to renovate the preschool's main playground, there were many criteria that had to be met. It had to encourage physical play, include everyone and offer a wide variety of activities.

However, the playground's environmental footprint also influenced the choice of solution. On the one hand, the preschool wanted to facilitate the curriculum's mission to teach children about recycling, and on the other hand, it was important to comply with the municipality's requirements for responsible procurement.

Therefore, the preschool chose a teal coloured play structure with panels made from recycled ocean waste and posts made from discarded textiles and post consumer recycled plastic waste. The headmistress Annika Lönn sums up the solution well: ‘This is sustainable development, plain and simple!’

The preschool's main goal with the new playground was to meet the curriculum's objectives for physical activity. This meant that it should offer children of all ages and abilities the opportunity to develop their gross motor skills. The large Moments™ play structure does just that, with its wide range of activities that develop physical, creative, cognitive and social-emotional abilities. The Flexotop™ ECO wet pour surfacing around the structure makes activities at ground level accessible to everyone, while the stairs make elevated play accessible to more ages and abilities.

The water play structure, Waterfall with Sand Table, also supports the preschool's mission to offer creative play with different materials. Best of all, children of different ages can collaborate, communicate and inspire each other while practising logical thinking as well as their understanding of cause and effect. According to the teachers at Byagården, the children ask every single day,: ‘When are we going to connect the water hose?’ And once the hose is connected, the pupils flock to the water play area to experiment and build with sand, water and mud.
