Voss Activity Park

With its large forests, high mountains, and Lake Vangsvatnet, the city of Voss is idyllically located in Western Norway. Best known for its spectacular scenery, Voss also has a reputation as an adrenaline capital where citizens can often be found paddling, parachuting, paragliding, and skiing. In recent years, however, the city has also become known for its new activity park, which offers a playground, skate park, volleyball courts, outdoor fitness area, and beautiful open spaces. The activity park has quickly become the community's favorite place to play and exercise. Filled with equipment for all ages, the outdoor fitness area is so popular that the local gym hosts boot camp sessions there during spring and summer. Alongside it, the large, natural playground provides age-appropriate activities that encourage active play. In 2023, Voss Activity Park won the Landscape Architecture Award, recognizing its thoughtful design and role as a vibrant hub for the community.

But building this site in such a magical location didn’t come without its challenges. Nestled right next to Lake Vangsvatnet, the park is exposed to frequent flooding; the area has been underwater six times, most recently in the fall of 2024 when extreme weather submerged the entire play and fitness park. For that reason, the park was designed with flood defense in mind. With concrete soles, flood pillars, and other protective measures, every structure is founded and dimensioned to withstand Vangsvatnet’s tides. In addition to the flooding, since opening in 2017, the park has experienced temperatures ranging from -22°F to +86°F, snow, and sunshine without showing any signs of damage, rust, or rot on the equipment or in the Flexotop and concrete base. Designed to endure, Voss Activity Park ensures that play, fitness, and community well-being will thrive here—season after season, year after year.

With a natural playground, large climbing structure, and outdoor fitness equipment, Voss Activity Park invites children, teens, and adults to play and exercise while taking in the beautiful view of Vangsvatnet. Every area is universally designed with a solid surface, making them accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and functional levels.

Voss was not only built with different types of users in mind but also designed for durability, as the site experiences high foot traffic, drastic flooding, and extreme temperatures. The fitness equipment and Explorer Dome are made of pre-galvanized and powder-coated steel, backed by a lifetime guarantee. The playground’s playhouse, swings, and springers are crafted from Robinia wood, naturally resistant to rot and lasting for at least 15 years. The playground surfacing is Flexotop rubber, our own material, guaranteed for up to 5 years. Built to last, the park provides inclusive spaces that will support play and fitness for years to come.
