Voss Activity Park

With Lake Vangsvatnet, large forests, and high mountains, the city of Voss is idyllically located in Western Norway. Voss is best known for its spectacular scenery, but also as an adrenaline capital where you can paddle, parachute, paraglide, and ski. In recent years, the city has also become known for its new activity park, which offers a playground, skate park, volleyball courts, outdoor fitness centre, and beautiful open spaces. The activity park has quickly become the community’s favourite place to play and exercise.

The park is filled with equipment for all ages, and the outdoor fitness area is so popular that the local fitness centre uses the park for their outdoor boot camp sessions in the spring and summer. In addition to the fitness area, the park also has a large natural playground with age-appropriate activities, and right next to it is the expansive skate park.

In 2023, Voss Activity Park won the Landscape Architecture Award! The park’s design, combined with the open landscape, is absolutely magical. However, with its beautiful location right next to Lake Vangsvatnet, there is also a risk of flooding. The entire area has been flooded six times, most recently in the autumn of 2024, when extreme weather filled the whole play and training park with water.

The area has therefore been designed with flood defence in mind, as it receives visitors all year round. With concrete foundations and other flood protection measures, all the structures are built and dimensioned to withstand the tides of Lake Vangsvatnet. Visitors can also view the various flood peaks marked on the flood pillars. Since opening in 2017, the park has experienced temperatures ranging from +30 to -30 degrees Celsius, flooding, snow, and sunshine – all without showing any signs of damage, rust, or rot to the equipment or the Flexotop and concrete base.

With a natural wooden playground, climbing structure and outdoor fitness equipment, children, teenagers and adults alike can play and exercise all muscle groups while enjoying the beautiful view of Lake Vangsvatnet. The play and fitness areas are universally designed with a solid surface and are suitable for all ages and functional levels.

The training area and the large Explorer Dome climbing structure are made from pre-galvanised and powder-coated steel, which comes with a lifetime guarantee. Meanwhile, the playground — featuring a playhouse, swings and springers made from Robinia wood — is naturally resistant to rot and has a lifespan of at least 15 years. The surface of the playground is made of Flexotop rubber, our own specialised material, which comes with a guarantee of up to 5 years.

The entire activity park is therefore designed with a wide range of users in mind, offering easy access to equipment and a long lifespan — even with the risk of flooding, as shown in the pictures above.
