Over fifty years ago, Danish sculptor Tom Lindhardt observed children playing on his artistic sculptures that were commissioned to brighten up a dreary housing estate. Tom then switched his medium to playable art - playgrounds that were fun, yet beautiful and timeless in their design. Since then, this design philosophy has continued on through a global team of KOMPAN designers, who honour Lindhardt's artistic expression, while pushing the boundary of what play can be in the 21st century.

Playful designs that support physical and cognitive development
Children are like snowflakes: externally similar, yet all uniquely different. With KOMPAN, the many diverse sensations demanded by children like the thrills of speed, heights, and space, as well as the importance of role-play and comradeship - are built into every play element. These needs are not plucked from thin air, rather they are determined by a dedicated group of play researchers we call the KOMPAN Play Institute.
In many ways, reflect the individuality of the children who enjoy them. Each piece is clearly recognisable while always having unique characteristics. Our aim is threefold: to create a WOW reaction, to encourage a desire to STAY, and DEVELOP people physically, cognitively, creatively and socially through play.
Outdoor fitness delivering real physiological outcomes
Exercise and fresh air are key ingredients to a universal formula for feeling good. Today, we are well aware of the positive impact physical activity can have on both our bodies and minds. With sedentary lifestyles now standard in most societies, we need to make more effort to move our bodies. Outdoor gyms are a wonderful way to encourage exercise. However, not all products are created equally. Producing outdoor fitness equipment that is truly fit for purpose requires a scientific approach regarding to what to do, how to do it, and what to do it on. This is where design meets reality. KOMPAN collaborates with sports physiologists and physiotherapists, as well as universities and sports researchers to form their Fitness Institute to make sure we deliver impactful outdoor fitness equipment for all abilities and fitness levels.

When does a playground become more than just a playground? When it is one of a kind.
The KOMPAN Design Studio is a collective of local and global designers who work together to translate your ideas, themes and stories into fully bespoke playgrounds and fitness areas. They are landmarks, as distinctive and eye-catching as an experimental skyscraper or centuries-old redwood tree. Across Australia and New Zealand, KOMPAN Design Studio playgrounds have broken the mold of typical post-and-platform and swing play areas, and added the real WOW factor with an architectural masterpiece.
Universally inclusive playgrounds
Play is both a want and a need for children, no matter their physical or cognitive abilities. We believe the magic of play should be freely accessible to all, and this is reflected in our dedication to designing inclusive play products and promoting the creation of truly accessible and inclusive playgrounds. We call it 'Play for All' - our position that play should be without boundaries, where children are so engaged that they’re unaware of each other’s personal situation. Universal design means stigma-free playgrounds for everyone.

We make sure that the site of your new outdoor recreation area is a safe and effective place to play and be active for years after installation. We make sure that everything gets to site and on time and clear the area, remove old equipment, install products, lay safety surfacing, put up shade and edging and provide important compliance and safety documentation for sign-off.
