Considerations for schools and urban spaces
A new, groundbreaking study has concluded that contrary to popular belief, tweens display a high level of physical activity on school playgrounds if they have free access to age-appropriate and challenging playground equipment. The doctoral study from Ph.D. student, Thea Toft Amholt analyzes over 140 million data points. These data points were collected from more than a thousand children aged 9-12 with interviews, observations, and GPS and movement tracking.
The survey data clearly indicates, that if tweens have access to playgrounds with age-appropriate and exciting equipment, they are incredibly active.
