    Why Choose Freestanding Playground Equipment?

Freestanding playground equipment allows you to create play spaces no matter the size of your proposed area and are ideal for a playground refurbishment as they are great as stand-alone structures. They offer great flexibility and versatility in the playground layout. Our commercial stand-alone playground equipment complies with all industry safety standards.

The iconic Crazy Hen springer started a revolution that hasn’t stopped. For the last 50 years, KOMPAN has been at the forefront of playground design, with design teams and behavioural specialists continually pushing the bar higher by exploring and understanding the joy and benefits a playground generates. Here are some of our most popular freestanding playground items.

    Spinners and Carousels

Children need the dizzying input that comes from spinning. These important movement experiences help the child’s nervous system mature and develop.

    Classic Swings

Of all play activities, swinging is an all-time favourite. Children just love to swing, whether for a quiet moment alone or with a group of friends.

    Slides

No matter their age, children love to slide! Often the slide is the first activity they run to when visiting a playground and will return to many times during their visit.

    Seesaws

Seesaws bring a social dimension to the joy of rocking and enable children to develop friendships and language skills.

    Springers

The best thing about springers is using your own body weight to generate movement and rocking! Great as stand alone units and can be placed close together to be enjoyed with friends.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. What is freestanding playground equipment?

Freestanding play equipment are units that work well as stand alone units or when grouped together can provide a fun play experience with friends. For example, swings, slides, seesaws and play panels.

    2. What materials are used to make playground equipment?

Freestanding playground equipment can be made from various materials, including composite, metal or wood. KOMPAN springs are made of high-quality steel with anti-pinch fittings for maximum safety.

    3. Can freestanding equipment be customised?

KOMPAN offers many customisation options for our freestanding playground structures, such as colour changes and modifications to shapes and sizes. In all cases however, it is important to remember that all equipment must adhere to the local safety standards and regulations.

    4. How long does it take to install traditional playground equipment?

The installation time for your play area varies depending on the size of the playground, if groundworks are needed and we also need to consider the Irish weather when installing!

It typically takes several days to a week and, for larger projects, longer than that. The whole process, from design to installed final product, is divided into 3 stages, each of which takes roughly a month. Learn more on our playground installation page.

    5. How do I maintain the freestanding playground equipment once installed?

Regular maintenance is important for the safety and longevity of freestanding playground equipment. This includes regular inspections, cleaning and repairs as needed. Requirements for inspections vary locally, but we recommend at least one inspection every year. Our warranty covers KOMPAN’s playgrounds... and we are always ready to provide spare parts and have a dedicated spare parts and maintenance team based in Ireland.

    6. How long does freestanding play equipment last?

The lifespan of classic playground equipment can vary depending on the materials' quality and the maintenance level. Therefore, it's important to use commercial-grade materials for all public use areas with high footfall. At KOMPAN, we pride ourselves on ensuring that our high-quality playground equipment can last for several decades with proper care. This is also reflected in our industry-leading warranties. To learn more about warranties, please visit our warranties page here.

    7. What safety standards are in place for the playground equipment?

Playground equipment must comply with safety standards. These are set by organisations such as TÜV, ASTM, or IPEMA. Our playground equipment has passed multiple tests and quality standards - but you must always ensure that you follow local regulations and laws. For such questions, we typically recommend contacting one of our consultants available in your area who can help you with any queries.

    8. How do I determine the best playground layout?

It is important to consider factors such as the size and shape of the playground area, the age and abilities of the users and the type of equipment you want to include and access to the area. It's also important to follow all safety guidelines and regulations for playgrounds in your area. Our sales and design team based in our Galway office can advise you on layouts and can create a site plan for your area.

Learn more about the process from start to finish in our playground planning guide.
