What is Georgia House Bill 371?
House Bill 371 is a Georgia law, passed in 2025, designed to ensure that new school playgrounds are safe, inclusive, and engaging spaces that meet modern accessibility standards. It is also aimed at providing more stable and higher state funding for school construction and major facility improvements. After 1 July 2027, every new elementary school playground in Georgia must meet the following design standards:
Provide a sensory-diverse environment that enables children of all abilities to develop physically, socially, and emotionally;
Provide an engaging play space with age and ability-appropriate levels of challenge and offers opportunities for children of all abilities to succeed, regardless of physical and intellectual attributes;
Enable all students to benefit from state mandated recess time for elementary students;
Capable for use as an outdoor classroom that is open to all students; and
