Wellen Park is an 11,000-acre master-planned community in Sarasota County, Florida, designed to give residents convenient, walkable access to its retail and recreational amenities. When it came to the community playground in Downtown Wellen, the main district for shopping, dining, and community gathering, the developer was motivated to elevate the play space beyond the standard playground, one that spoke to the development's brand identity and community pride. Located near the future Firehouse No. 87, the fire station theme emerged as a natural choice, honoring the park’s location and giving children an inviting framework for cooperative and imaginative play. With Florida’s year‑round outdoor climate, the city also required durable, low‑maintenance equipment that could support frequent use and remain comfortable and accessible for families throughout the seasons.
By partnering with KOMPAN, the vision is realized with top to bottom fire-rescue themed customizations. With dedicated play areas for toddlers and older children, the final solution ensures even the youngest visitors have a safe, engaging place to "save the day" as a first responder. Custom fire‑themed structures, inclusive swings, and accessible surfacing allow children of all abilities to play side by side, reinforcing the park’s role as a true destination outdoor space for the community.
Make-Believe Play For Heroes Big & Small
Station Park Playground will inspire Southwestern Florida families with an array of exciting playground equipment, including a 27-foot-tall GIANT play tower with fire station-themed play panels and two slides. Children can step into the boots of everyday heroes when they climb aboard the custom rescue helicopter or take the wheel of the fire truck play structures. The surrounding freestanding playground equipment, including a Monkey Trails Mini obstacle course, Universal Carousel, spinning playground equipment, and ADA-accessible swing set, cater to children of all ages and abilities. Poured-in-place rubber surfacing lets children with mobility-assisted devices move throughout the play space with greater ease and continues the fire station theme with a fire hose, sirens, hydrants and more featured in its design.
