Recycled Waste Turned into Durable Play off the Coast

Hallandale Beach, a vibrant, coastal community in southeastern Florida, found that the playground at South City Beach Park was in need of replacement. The previous playground equipment was too challenging for the toddler- to preschool aged-children who frequent the area. Located just steps from the beach, the replacing play equipment would also need to withstand the rapid calcification and corrosion the Atlantic salt water can cause. By working with KOMPAN, the City of Hallandale Beach found an age-appropriate, durable solution composed from up to 95% recycled post-consumer waste sources.

Each piece of playground equipment at South City Beach Park is composed of TexMade™ posts and Eco-Core Panels, both made from more than 95% post-consumer recycled textile and plastic waste. The Four Towers + Bridges, play panels, swing set, and freestanding spinning playground equipment give the children a wide variety of age-appropriate play activities to engage with. The Daisy Desk offers toddlers take a break from the wilder action for quieter moments, and the Coupe Deluxe lets them take the wheel into imaginative, themed play.
