To celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, the City of Richmond Hill wanted to create a playground as a tribute to this great historic milestone. The old playground in the local park was revitalized using the red and white national colors of the Canadian flag.
Since the playground opened, it has been a real hit, and the community has taken great pride in the unique design that tells the Canadian story. For the tweens and teens from the neighboring school, it is the new favorite spot to play and meet friends.

"So, we wanted to support the red and white colors. We wanted to keep the Canadian flag - those very strict colors - controlled. And with KOMPAN we got what we wanted."
Paul Diprofio - Director, NAK Design Strategies
The challenging play equipment featured in this playground is all part of the design – to inspire tweens and teens to push themselves beyond what they thought was possible.
One element that highlights this is the iconic . This sculpture-like piece allows children to climb and crawl at their own pace. The varied grip and panel positions promote the discovery of new climbing routes as well as improve muscle strength, coordination, and concentration. Beyond the climbing elements, this huge structure also features social points where the children can take a break and just hang out.
Adjacent to the block structure is another climbing feature that encourages children to be bold. This play system, the , includes movable elements that promote agility, cross-coordination, and logical thinking. The play shells at either end are also wonderful, wobbly meeting places that support social-emotional skills, such as turn-taking and socializing.
And what else do children love besides climbing? Thrills! Teens and tweens will find no shortage of exhilarating pieces at this park with tons of , including the and . The and also guarantee high lots of excitement. It's no wonder this unique playground has been a favorite since the first day it opened!
