KOMPAN Outdoor Gym Area for the Community

Abbey Leisure Centre is located in one of the most deprived areas of Cambridge. To support health equity for those who could not afford a gym membership, Cambridge City Council commissioned KOMPAN to create a free to use outdoor gym. Filled with a range of calisthenics equipment, cardio exercise bikes, as well as innovative outdoor strength machines. The brief was:

To create a fitness site that offered something different from traditional outdoor gym products.
To install high-quality equipment that was robust, low-maintenance, and would withstand vandalism.
To provide outdoor fitness equipment that appealed to a variety of demographics.

"KOMPAN have been easy to work with, very efficient, and professional. This is not our first project together, and we would have no hesitation in working with them on future projects. The project was delivered on time, within budget, and there have been absolutely no problems on site. The community feedback has been great, with such a wide range of people using the equipment. We have groups of teenagers, adults, female-only boot camp classes, our mental health service users, and also the Exercise Referral Scheme running sessions for their members. Park Run also uses it for warm-ups.!

KOMPAN transformed Abbey Leisure’s outdoor area into a multi-faceted outdoor gym for the community to enjoy. From adjustable cardio to cross-training equipment, Abbey Leisure now offers something to suit all demographics. The site is free to use and requires no subscription, making it ideal for those with less disposable income. The site proved so popular that Cambridge City Council returned to KOMPAN for a gym extension!
