Food for thought for schools and urban spaces
Contrary to popular belief, tweens are very physically active on the school playground. This has been made clear by a ground-breaking new doctoral and the conclusion is clear: Tweens are very physically active in the schoolyard, if they have free access to age-appropriate and challenging playground equipment.
The doctoral analyzes over 140 million data points, collected from more than a thousand children aged 9-12 with interviews, observations and GPS and movement tracking.
The survey data clearly indicates, that if tweens have access to playgrounds with age-appropriate and exciting equipment, they are incredibly active.
