Design idea of how to build an inclusive playground in a park

An inclusive playground design

WOW: The thrilling playscape attracts all ages and abilities with its richly varied, responsive play activities. The varied playground areas support both busy and quiet play behaviours in young children as well as older children and tweens.

STAY: The three zones with defined areas are an invitation to for long visits.

KOMPAN’s 6 universal design principles lead to a playscape that inspires children of all abilities to play and return frequently:

1. Accessible, inclusive routing.

2. Access to relevant ground-level activities.

3. Access to relevant elevated-level activities.

4. Support thrilling or challenging play.

5. Support social interaction.

6. Variation in play activities.

DEVELOP: The abundance of play choices ticks the boxes for the fun stimulation of children’s physical, social-emotional and cognitive-creative development. The physical interaction with play equipment and peers supports children’s life skills, their understanding of the world, their health and their happiness playfully.
