Nautical themed inclusive play area for all abilities using sustainable materials
The brief for the play area was to incorporate inclusive play principles, safety, durability and environmental sustainability. The preference of materials was for metal or composite rather than wood due to the risk of vandalism and splinter risk. We worked closely with the Town Council, using our vast experience to ensure that the space reflected the latest thinking in play design and accessibility.
Our design proposal had a nautical theme and would create a new inclusive play area for all abilities using sustainable materials throughout. The play equipment that we selected allowed for group activities and for many users to be able to access the equipment together with varying levels of challenge. We carefully selected equipment made from steel with rubber wet pour surfacing that incorporated sea themed graphics to make the area more accessible and to minimise future maintenance.
This new bright, engaging and inclusive play space is already proving very popular with its users and the feedback from the local community has been amazing!

“The Town Council worked closely with KOMPAN, a leading provider of innovative play and fitness equipment, to ensure the space reflects the latest thinking in play design and accessibility. After coming to the end of its usable life, Victoria Play Area was in need of a creative and long-lasting replacement. We are delighted to officially open the site after the months of planning, design and feedback that have gone into the project. The Victoria Pleasure Ground has long been one of Uckfield’s most cherished open spaces, hosting sports, community events and more. The presence of the refurbished play area ensures it will continue to be a lively hub for residents and visitors alike. The installation was seamless, we are delighted with the finished play area which has been met with nothing but positive feedback.”
