Noakes Meadow, Ashford Borough Council

Noakes Meadow was an open space in a deprived area of the borough where the play facilities were in poor condition and lacking any excitement or play value. It also suffered a lot with poor drainage, making larger parts unusable to the public for most of the year. To encourage greater use from the local residents and to provide for more active lifestyles, a number of improvements were identified by the council. One of which was to install a new playground in a new location.

The new playground would need to meet the play and developmental needs of a wide range of children, and all parts of the spectrum, including children with disabilities (both physical and neurological) and also those children that are most able.

Ashford Borough Council then tendered for the opportunity to build the new playground. After a competitive process, the council evaluated the tenders against a number of criteria including equipment choices, technical specifications, materials, guarantees and play value and KOMPAN were awarded the contract with an overall score of 95.2%.

We designed a playground that included a good variety of inclusive, accessible and also challenging equipment where children can play together as they grow through the age groups.

The playground was officially opened in July 2024 with a grand opening event taking place in August. Feedback from parents and children alike has been overwhelmingly positive and the council were extremely satisfied with the outcomes that the new playground provides.
