Multi-Site Ward Enhancement Programme, East Staffordshire Borough Council

38 separate sites to enhance accessibility and inclusive play, with a very quick turnaround
KOMPAN were approached by East Staffordshire Borough Council towards the end of 2024 with details of a project which not only had very short turnaround times for completion, but the additional complexity of involving 38 separate sites stretching across the whole borough.
KOMPAN were asked to put together a proposal to best manage the budget across all sites, with a focus on enhancing accessible and inclusive play. As well as reducing the maintenance burden on the council moving forwards, and replacing end of life items at each site.
We worked closely with the council to devise a suitable, and achievable plan to deliver impactful improvement across all 38 sites, carefully selecting each product from the KOMPAN Quick Supply product range, ensuring each item aligned with the brief, the site and the timescales set out, whilst delivering the best value too. KOMPAN developed a contract management plan with the finest attention to detail to ensure the projects ran to schedule throughout the delivery phase. This multi-layered approach gave ESBC the assurance that by working with KOMPAN, the Ward Enhancement Programme would be delivered on time and on budget.
Every site saw different products, improvements and works carried out to best enhance the current offering and achieve the councils’ intended outcomes. From safe and inviting toddler play equipment, to thrilling junior items like our BLOQX 3 climbing boulders. As well as compact, effective adult outdoor exercise equipment, we ensured our product range worked hard to provide the most significant improvements for all 38 communities involved.
Working within existing play spaces and needing to deliver the best value against the budget available, strategic design choices were made to best work with existing site constraints, age zones and locations around other equipment on each site.
The completed sites are now busier than they have been in years, to a wider range of children and families. The burden of increased maintenance to the council caused by tired equipment and damaged surfacing has also been successfully resolved.

Due to success, four additional sites were added to the scope
KOMPAN set out to improve access to high quality, inclusive play across 38 separate sites and all wards across the borough through the delivery of this project. The contract ran so smoothly that improvements to four additional sites were added to the scope and these were still delivered within the intended timescales.
