A destination playground design honouring the local area
Cannock District Council were really keen to make sure the new play area was a huge improvement on the previous one. It was looking extremely tired, outdated and they wanted a modern and accessible play area with the ‘wow’ factor to replace it to become a destination park.
As we started to design the play area with the council KOMPAN were keen to honour the local area, so we included lots of greens and browns within our design proposal to reference the nearby Cannock Chase Forest. We also included a blue river running through the site as well as some stepping stones spelling out ‘Cannock Park’. The design also included a brand new inclusive sand pit, accessible for a wheelchair all the way through.
The council were keen to use sustainable products as part of their climate action plan throughout the play area. With this in mind we used our Greenline products within the project. This included 95% post-consumer recycled waste used in the HDPE panels.
With the large bespoke Giants unit as its centrepiece it attracts and welcomes children in from afar. The immense range of play equipment including a double cableway, inclusive low level ramped play unit, swings, plus various spinning and sensory items has something for all the young visitors. The new play area with all of its new features has play opportunities for over 170 children of all ages and abilities. The feedback has already been amazing.
“When the playground was opened we were absolutely thrilled. We had been campaigning for it for years and to see the children all running in to use the play equipment, it was absolutely fantastic. We all felt that all the effort had all been well worth while!”
Christine Salmon, Chair of the Friends of Cannock Park
“Again, it’s that family feel, it’s the outdoors, and you can actually touch and feel, and sense all the health and wellbeing benefits, and the improvements that these parks are going to make to peoples lives.”
Councillor Garry Samuels, Cannock Chase District Council
