An award winning landmark playground
Redditch Borough Council wanted to create a stand-out attraction in a busy park that the community could enjoy for many years to come.
KOMPAN was awarded the contract because we proved that we could create a real `WOW’ factor within this destination park. We included impact from height and scale from a bespoke GIANT XL Lakeside Treehouse unit, which features a 9m high tower, offering a real understanding of the local distinctiveness and country park nature of the site. It was also vitally important the design provided access for all abilities. KOMPAN supported the council in achieving planning permission for the high tower structure, dealing with the challenges of COVID-19, the harsh winter frost period, and elements of anti-social activity too, to deliver a project on time and to the council’s budget.
The Council are thrilled with the outcome and has already expressed their wishes to work with KOMPAN again in the future with, commissions already received for two other destination Parks in 2021. This is a very exciting relationship which will impact the lives of those living in the local communities, for the better.
The playground has been recognised for its ‘innovation around play’ and has received the Chair’s Award.

The Inspiration Behind Arrow Valley Playground Design
When Redditch Borough Council set out to create the ultimate playground experience, they thought big! They wanted something to stand out above the rest, not just in size but in design.
Inspired by the beautiful woodlands and captivating nature of Arrow Valley Country Park, they teamed up with the innovative minds at KOMPAN, hoping to attract people from all over the UK to come and visit their beloved country park. Sticking to the theme of woodlands and nature to resemble the country park setting, KOMPAN designed and developed an innovative playground that focused on more than just play. They aimed to give the kids playground equipment that would thrill, excite, and educate, all whilst ensuring inclusive play, allowing people with disabilities to use the play equipment, excluding no one.
However, one of the main standout features Redditch Borough Council wanted was to create a play area encouraging social interactions. Built during COVID, a time when social interactions were at an all time low, Kompan created the bespoke GIANT XL Lakeside Treehouse unit to involve problem-solving challenges for children to face at each level, giving them the challenge of getting to the top. In doing so, this aligns all children to embark on the same problem-solving journey.
