Did you know KOMPAN was born as part of a housing development?
Over 50 years ago, KOMPAN was founded by 'accident' by Tom Lindhardt following an observation on a housing estate when children adopted a local art project as playthings. Seeing the children's playful interactions with the artistic sculptures led to envisioning play sculptures as a way to bring art and play together. 50 years on, we're still delivering high-quality outdoor and to local communities across Scotland.

Our playground solutions can be as colourful as your heart desires – but with a dramatically reduced carbon footprint. CircularHDPE panels in the colour teal are made from post-consumer ocean recycled waste collected from the maritime industry, such as fishing nets, ropes and trawl nets. All other colours are made from post-consumer household waste.
Since 2021, KOMPAN has made it possible to receive documentation on the full carbon footprint of a standard product together with CO2e/kg and the recycled percentage of the total product to make it easy to compare with other types of products.

LAP (Local Area for Play) A small, “doorstep” play space intended for very young children (typically up to age 6). It’s designed for informal play and easy supervision, usually located within about a minute’s walk of homes.
LEAP (Local Equipped Area for Play) A medium‑sized, equipped play area for children who are beginning to play independently (roughly ages 4–12). These spaces provide a range of play value that include several items of equipment that gives suitable age appropriate challenges. This typically attracts young families to new housing developments.
NEAP (Neighbourhood Equipped Area for Play) A larger play area primarily serving older children and teens (up to 14+), while still including areas for younger users. NEAPs generally offer more adventurous equipment and may incorporate features like a multi‑use games area (MUGA) for the whole family to enjoy. Typically these also include seating, bins, and sometimes bike parking.
