Threlkeld Playground, Threlkeld

The community of Threlkeld, a village in the Lake District at the foot of Blencathra, on the coast-to-coast route, faced the loss of their only play area. The old playground had reached the end of its life, and Eden District Council was decommissioning the aging equipment with no plans for replacement due to financial constraints.

Determined to create a safe, engaging space for children of all ages, the local community group, Threlkeld Toddlers, led an initiative to revitalise the playground. Their vision was a modern, durable playground that reflected the local landscape while offering inclusive play opportunities for the village’s children and visiting families.

The Threlkeld Toddlers group invited multiple providers to submit proposals, seeking creative, high-quality, low-maintenance solutions. After a thorough selection process, KOMPAN were chosen through competitive tender. We stood out thanks to our exceptional visual design, attention to detail and industry-leading warranties ensuring long-term durability.

The result is a vibrant, visually appealing play area that has transformed the heart of the village. The playground now offers a diverse range of activities for children of all ages, making it a hub of community life.

The main feature of the playground is, KOMPAN’s Double Mega Deck. Our Mega Deck has multiple play options like varied crawling, climbing, gliding and sliding from different levels. This offers good muscle and motor skills training, among others like balance and cross body coordination, for a wide range of children and their adults!

Positioned next to the village school and on a popular tourist route, it is now a valuable and enduring asset for both residents and visitors alike.
