Clifton-upon-Teme Parish Council first contacted KOMPAN in 2020 for some initial assistance in putting together design ideas to carry out a consultation with the local community. It was important to the parish council that their community had their say in what they would like to see when refurbishing the play equipment at the Pound Lane Recreation Ground.
It was important for the new play area to have a toddler zone, junior zone and teen zone. A key aspect for the new design was to make the area more accessible and inclusive with all-year round surfacing. The equipment needed to be robust and low maintenance whilst suiting the rural surroundings. The feedback from the consultation was to ensure there was a good range of play features with low and high level play ensuring users of all abilities could easily play together.
The final design for Pound Lane Recreation Ground features a variety of equipment for the full age range 1-13+. The exciting new toddler zone features a fully wet pour surface making it accessible for all, including wheelchair users and buggies. The flow around each piece of equipment was carefully considered with each item offering multiuse play. The toddler multi play unit features a variety of double-sided low-level play panels, accessible platform steps, bridge, tunnel and two slides. Across the two areas, 14 new play items have been included, with items such as the tall spire net and the challenging twin ring carousel for the older children to burn off some steam with friends.
The equipment was chosen in predominantly nature colours green, brown and red to compliment the rural setting, and the wet pour was selected in a green mix. The new play area provides play for over 100 users at a time, making it an excellent location for families to play and socialise together for many years to come. The feedback has been fantastic!
