OrbitPlay: Interactive Outdoor Play Equipment by KOMPAN

Introducing our latest innovation in outdoor play, OrbitPlay. Unlike traditional play equipment such as swings or slides, OrbitPlay is a modern play structure that combines the exhilaration of digital gaming with the physical, social and cognitive benefits of outdoor play to create a sensory-rich play experience. The unit features six sensors that act as touch points for various games, including action, memory and social games, encouraging children to move, think and connect in new ways. PlayBox comes in 14 different colours and features a game rotation system and smart monitoring, allowing you to track usage.

The industry’s leading interactive play solution

Encouraging children to play outdoors can be a challenge, especially as they get older. However that does not mean the end of play. OrbitPlay is a solution for this, offering digital, dynamic and social play activities.

At the centre of the arch, you will find the PlayHub. This is where all the fun starts. It is the game centre that encourages movement and interaction, and it is also where you:

  • Start the games, set the rules and onboard the players

  • Offer engaging and advanced game mechanics

  • Invite spectators to follow the games and players, bringing people together to create a larger social group.

What is interactive play?

Interactive play is active, social, and responsive. Players engage with each other and the environment - solving challenges, moving, and communicating - rather than consuming passive entertainment. On an interactive playground, this happens through touch sensors, light/sound cues, and cooperative game rules that invite teamwork.

How does it work?

Game rotation system: Every year, OrbitPlay cycles through 12 games keeping the experience new, fresh and engaging.

Smart monitoring: Remote diagnostics and usage tracking help optimise performance and demonstrate ROI.

Customisable settings: Adjust sound levels, open/ close times, and more to suit your environment.

How do you design an interactive playground?

Playful learning: Combine cooperative games, reaction challenges, and memory/strategy tasks. The different games inspire cooperation, negotiation. logical and strategic thinking skills.

Plan for inclusion: Design for diverse ages and abilities, enabling side-by-side play and caregiver participation.

Add social space: Seating and sightlines so bystanders become supporters and join in.

Keep it fresh: Rotate content (e.g., monthly or annual game packs) so the interactive playground feels new all year.

Operate smart: When it comes to interactive playgrounds, remote diagnostics, adjustable settings (such as volume/open hours), and durable, weatherproof components minimise maintenance and downtime.

Frequently asked questions

Interactive play equipment, such as OrbitPlay, is not challenging to install. OrbitPlay requires a 230V power outlet, and a 10-50 meter cable. The three posts can be installed on most surfaces, making OrbitPlay easy to incorporate into an existing site.

Our interactive playground is created in collaboration with digital play specialists, designers, and engineers to deliver lasting performance and safety. It installs easily and quickly, requiring little to no maintenance.

Furthermore, OrbitPlay comes with the best warranties in the industry.

Interactive playgrounds don't require a specific surfacing type as there are no fall height. We recommend installing OrbitPlay on a durable surface, such as wet-pour, rubber mats, or asphalt. This is because soft surfaces like grass or sand will not last over time due to the amount of play.

Interactive playgrounds like OrbitPlay use a 230V power outlet. It uses 0.5 kwh/a day, that's the same as coffee brewer on during the day. OrbitPlay can be customised so that it is off during nighttime.

Even though OrbitPlay has a screen, it cannot be compared to an iPad or computer screen. In a world where screens dominate and outdoor activity declines, OrbitPlay offers a compelling solution. It speaks the language of today’s children - digital, dynamic, and social - while delivering the physical and emotional benefits of traditional play.

The screen in the middle of the arch serves as a play starter, providing both verbal and visual instructions. It also invites spectators to join in on the game by giving cues to the other children playing.

OrbitPlay is designed for minimal maintenance. The system is weatherproof, vandal-resistant, and built for public use. Routine tasks include basic cleaning, visual inspections, and occasional checks of the power supply. Thanks to remote diagnostics and usage tracking, most issues can be identified and resolved quickly. Game updates and software monitoring are handled online, ensuring the play experience stays fresh with little effort required from the owner.

OrbitPlay is optimized for 1 to 8 active players at a time, depending on the game and group size. The design encourages not only direct participation but also social interaction - children, parents, and even bystanders can join the fun by cheering and engaging around the play area.

OrbitPlay is designed to complement other playground equipment and fits seamlessly into both new and existing play areas. Its inclusive, multigenerational design means it works well alongside traditional and accessible play structures, creating a vibrant, social hub that enhances the overall playground experience.
