Playground Equipment

Spring riders are timeless, sensory-rich play features with strong appeal for children across Canada. As compact, stand-alone units, they fit easily into preschool, school, and park playgrounds and come in a wide range of playful designs. For children roughly 2 to 6 years of age, themed spring riders shaped like animals or vehicles encourage imaginative, independent play and gentle rocking without needing a partner.
Each unit invites children to climb on, hold tight, and create their own stories. KOMPAN’s very first design was a simple red hen on a blue spring, offering a fun, more versatile alternative to a traditional seesaw. Today, our commercial spring riders are available in many designs and materials and are built to meet recognized playground safety standards used throughout Canada.

Playground springers offer much more than a simple rocking motion. In public parks, schoolyards and community spaces across Canada, they invite children to experiment, move with confidence and explore cause and effect through play. Spring riders support key gross motor skills, especially balance and weight transfer. Even while seated, children practise stabilizing their bodies, which can carry over into walking, running and early sports skills.
The gentle back-and-forth motion also introduces a distinct sensory experience. Children learn how their movements create a response, strengthening early problem-solving, perseverance and self-confidence in a low-risk setting. Across Canadian schools and community hubs, commercial springers have become a familiar feature. Bright colours and recognizable shapes draw children in, increasing overall use of the play space. Modern fittings are designed to reduce pinch points, and compliant designs support safe play when installed and maintained to local standards.
When selecting spring riders for a Canadian playground, consider space, circulation and capacity. Distributing single, double or multi-seat springers around a park or schoolyard helps ease congestion near larger structures and gives children quieter play options. Pairing springers with other freestanding equipment, such as swings or slides, can create varied play zones without overwhelming the site.
Design options range from simple geometric forms to animals and vehicles. Some figures are instantly familiar; others invite children to decide what they represent, turning a calm cat into a racing animal or a classic hen into a legendary character from folklore. Whatever the theme, well-placed springers quickly become a trusted, long-lasting favourite in Canadian playgrounds.
Yes! The unique anti-pinch fittings fixed to our playground spring riders ensure maximum safety. The playground spring bouncers are usually placed low to the ground, creating low velocity. The taller part in the front of the springer prevents the rider from flying forward. A soft layer of TPE rubber gives the child a comfortable, secure seat that keeps them fixed to the playground equipment.
Our playground spring animals and vehicles have industry-leading warranties and are made of high-quality spring steel, according to EN10270, making them highly durable. The spring can be secured in two different ways, depending on the surfacing. Please contact your local playground consultant to learn more about installation and how the springers are secured.
The spring is not adjustable, but in some models of our playground spring riders, like the and , PUR has been installed to counterbalance and stabilize a weight shift. In general, the spring bouncers have the perfect amount of resistance to allow children of all abilities to enjoy a thrilling play experience.
KOMPAN invented the commercial playground spring rider in 1970. It all started with a hen on a bright blue spring, and we haven't stopped since! Today, our selection of playground spring riders has grown to a collection of more than 30 quirky and fun playground spring bouncers, all inviting you to hop on!
