Active Play for All Children
Outdoor active play is essential to children’s health, wellbeing, and holistic development. Beyond supporting physical growth, it nurtures social skills, encourages creativity, and provides a natural way to manage increasing screen time of children.
In this session, we will explore the latest research and innovative playground design solutions that respond to the needs of communities in today’s Singapore. Special attention will be given to inclusive play—demonstrating how thoughtfully designed spaces can enable children of all abilities to enjoy meaningful, engaging, and developmentally beneficial play experiences.
Whether you are a landscape architect, urban planner, school facility manager, or community developer, this is an opportunity to gain insights into how play spaces can be designed not only as safe environments, but also as vibrant, inclusive landmarks that enrich the urban landscape and bring lasting value to communities.

Jeanette Fich Jespersen
Heading up the KOMPAN Play Institute, Jeanette has over 25 years of experience in researching, developing, and doing outreach for playground play. She has spoken at numerous conferences and seminars, and hosted a variety of master classes and seminars on the topic of playground play and design as elemental for the health, well-being and learning of children. She is a passionate play advocate with extensive experience working with Governmental and Non-Governmental level. She has served on several scientific committees and steering boards, including the European Child Friendly Cities Initiative and Child in the City conferences, the International Play Association, Denmark, of which she is the present vice-president, and the World Playground Research Institute at the University of Southern Denmark, as a head of the steering committee. She has also authored and co-authored articles and white papers on her areas of research.
