Skara municipality needed to replace a worn-out playground in Olins Park, located in the centre of the city. The goal was that the new playground should have a large play structure with lots of play activities for the broad age range of 1-12 years, in a relatively small area. It was also important to the municipality that children of different abilities could play on the site and that it met, and ideally exceeded, the municipality's sustainability goals.
Motivated by the challenge, our playground designers developed a bespoke play structure that bridged toddler- and school-age play equipment. Additionally, only play equipment made largely from , such as discarded fishing nets, was chosen for the playground. To make the playground accessible to all, it features Flexotop™ ECO rubber surfacing and offers many play activities at ground level. The surface further enhances the play value with plant graphics to guide younger children to activities that suit them. Now, happy shouts and laughter can be heard echoing daily between the shops around the small park.
A big boost for the park. The kids love the new playground and it's made from recycled materials. What more could you ask for? We are super happy!
Daniel Almqvist - Park engineer, Skara municipality
In Olin's Park, children can play for hours without getting tired. The playground is packed with play activities: climbing, swinging, spinning, balancing, hanging, jumping, crawling, sliding, role play, music making, sensory play, and cozy nooks and crannies - here you can always discover something new, or gather courage to climb the highest towers and take the banister bars down again on your next visit.
The surface, the many play elements and the coherent design also make it natural for children to engage in competitive and imaginative play. A sign informs about the and gives adults a great opportunity to tell children about the importance of recycling. This playground really puts Skara and Olins Park on the map.
