What Are Playground Sets?

Play Systems

A commercial playground set is a large, pre-designed outdoor play structure that serves as the centrepiece of any public play area. In the UAE and across the MEA region, where outdoor community spaces are increasingly seen as essential to child development and urban livability, playground systems offer more than just fun—they bring families and neighborhoods together.

KOMPAN’s Play Systems are designed to engage children of all ages—from toddlers to teens—through a variety of themes, sizes, and styles. Whether it's the minimalist Simply Play Towers, the dynamic Elements™ range, the imaginative Castles and Ships, or the futuristic BLOQX™ and Galaxy™ structures, each system is a carefully crafted statement of creativity, movement, and inclusive play.

These multifunctional structures not only define the character of a playground but also encourage social interaction, group play, and physical development. Designed for high-capacity use, they are ideal for schools, residential communities, public parks, and urban developments across the UAE and MEA, where investments in family-friendly infrastructure, youth engagement, and healthier cities are driving demand for high-quality outdoor play solutions.

Your Dream Playground Is Already Configured

All KOMPAN Play Systems are based on a modular building block platform, allowing you to customise the design to suit your space, budget, and user group. This flexibility is ideal for the diverse needs of schools, parks, and urban spaces across the UAE and MEA region.

Compared to freestanding playground equipment, preconfigured sets offer several key advantages. Multiple play activities are combined in one structure, keeping children of all ages engaged. These large commercial playground systems are also easier to install, require less maintenance, and are built to last, making them a cost-effective solution for high-use public areas.

Designed to meet international safety standards, our play systems ensure proper spacing, structural integrity, and safe access points. Their compact yet compliant design makes them especially suitable for space-conscious projects, and individual parts can be easily maintained or replaced over time.

Benefits of Our Playground Sets

Of all the questions surrounding the values and attributes of playgrounds, none is more pertinent than what they do for a child's development. Play may seem an innocent pastime, but it is vital for building communication and motor skills and teaching children to share and strive for achievement.

A large playground unit also introduces lots of play value and different play activities that enable exploring and playing on the structure for hours and hours.

Each play system caters to several cognitive, social-emotional, creative, and physical benefits depending on the specific play activities and age group.

How to Choose the Right Playground Set

KOMPAN offers various playground systems to suit any setting, customer, user demographic and budget. Each range is manufactured with a combination of play elements, values, and materials to cater to a specific theme, user group or aesthetic. Here are some factors to consider when choosing a commercial playground to ensure usability, playability, and stability for your intended users.

  • Age-group: Considering who your users are is imperative, as different age groups have different needs and behaviours. You can also find play structures that are differentiated at a specific age group within the specific range.

  • Inclusivity: A genuinely inclusive playground is one that creates an accessible and engaging world for all children with all abilities. As a rule of thumb, that means choosing a playground structure with relevant elevated play activities with accessibility via, e.g., ramp or ground level activities with a thrill factor, e.g., speed. Consider a play system with sensory play variation and variation in play functions, such as options for solitary play and social play and play from all sides.

  • Playground area: As mentioned, a commercial play system is great for confined areas, but always have the size of your designated play area in mind. We are more than willing to help you decide which large play structure is suitable for your area upfront in an on-site consultation or a discovery call.

  • Purpose: Considering the purpose is also key. Playground structures have a recommended play capacity meaning how many children can play on the structure simultaneously. For example, as a rule of thumb, schoolyards need playground equipment with a high play capacity; in this case, you should also consider if the play systems are for the younger kids in the school or the older ones.

  • Budget: Often we find that a simple consultation with one of our play consultants benefits your playground project. Many of our customers have brilliant ideas. And we can help you get the most out of the scope of your playground with a free consultation where we align budget and customisation options to ensure your dream playground is realised in the best way possible.

Yes, absolutely. All of our preconfigured playground systems are commercial-grade and fully compliant with international safety standards. Because the design is integrated and tested as a complete unit, safety zones, fall heights, and spacing are already accounted for—giving you greater peace of mind and simplifying the planning process.

Play systems are an ideal solution for specific spaces, budgets, and user groups. With just one structure, you can maximise both play value and space efficiency, offering a wide range of activities and encouraging children to stay and play longer.

Colour is a silent language—it speaks without words, signalling danger, joy, curiosity, and comfort. While babies begin recognising colour around eight months of age, its influence on their development lasts a lifetime. Bright, primary colours are especially powerful in attracting and engaging children during play.

KOMPAN’s founder, artist Tom Lindhardt, understood this deeply. He intentionally used bold yellows, reds, and blues in his early playground designs, avoiding green, believing that nature already provided it in the surrounding grass. His thoughtful use of colour continues to shape how children experience play: intuitively, imaginatively, and safely.
