Sand & Water Play

Tapping into nature

There’s something extra pleasing about getting your hands into sand and water, especially if you are a child. In a world full of solid blocks and hard knocks, the sensory experience of something physically attractive like running water and sand is an opportunity to play and learn at the same time. When they come together, sand and water have a huge impact on the creative and cognitive development of a young child. From the sense of achievement in constructing something generated entirely by their own minds, to the dexterity of the messy hands that made it possible – it is a very tactile experience. The themes, introducing concepts like the Waterfall and Chain and Mermaid’s Fountain, help trigger imaginations.

Most features in playgrounds perform as intended by the team at KOMPAN’s Design Studio and remain stable, but with sand and water, the outcome of each day’s play in literally in the child’s own hands, and minds. It is a fascinating platform for individually in the child’s first encounter with physics, awaking creativity and understanding.

KOMPAN’s freestanding range is the fun-filled route to starting, complementing or completing the perfect playground. The standalone options are as broad in variation of purpose and style as they are in materials. They range from the traditional classics of the slide and swing, but viewed with progressive eyes, to the expansive thrills of the cableways or the adventure-generating opportunities for toddlers through playhouses and themes.

Outdoor play is amongst the best and most valuable forms of development activity. If there are any positives from the global lockdown of 2020 it is in the realisation of what it means to get out and enjoy life and the importance of fresh air in terms of basic health.

We encourage you to click and to be inspired by the amazing playgrounds we have installed around the world.

Are the designs flexible?

The correct flow of sand and water means that the units have to adhere to what the designers came up with, however the separate features are free to be placed where they offer the most accessible fun.

Does sand and water affect other play areas?

Sand, more so than water, has the ability to shift. If it can manage to make it home in shoes and pockets, it can creep round the whole playground. But it is more than likely that if there is a sand and water feature, then the safe surfacing for the whole playground may be sand.
