Northeast Venice Park

The City of Venice was looking to create an outdoor space rooted in its natural surroundings with a wide selection of unique, high-value play and outdoor fitness offerings for all generations. The Florida Gulf Coast town serves a growing population of older adults and families with young children, so designing an outdoor fitness zone where caretakers could supervise children playing on the playground and support their own healthy lifestyles was a central focus for the project. Through a collaboration with KOMPAN and landscape architecture Kimley-Horn, a multigenerational CommonGround™ is realized with a thoughtfully planned solution tailored specifically for the Venice community. With a custom Sandhill Crane Robinia play structure welcoming visitors to the destination nature playground and an all-levels fitness site with strength, cardio, and Stay Fit workout equipment, everyone can move, "connect" with local wildlife through play, and enjoy time in the outdoors—together.

The nature-inspired playground at Northeast Venice Park combines imaginative play with active climbing, creative discovery, and social connection. At the heart of the space is a custom Robinia Sandhill Crane play structure. As a proud display of Gulf Coast identity and a playful connection to the natural setting, the Crane offers varied climbing challenges underneath and atop its wings. A custom Robinia Turtle structure gives younger children a wildlife-inspired climbing connection. Rope play on the Jungle Dome and a climbing bridge add height, balance, and challenge for children who want to test their coordination and confidence, while a Little Turtle’s Town play structure and music play panels offer younger children a welcoming place for sensory play, role play, and age-appropriate exploration.

In sight of the playground is the outdoor fitness zone, extending appeal to teens, adults, and active agers with a well-rounded mix of Stay Fit equipment, cardio stations, and strength machines. With the playground in full sight, Northeast Venice Park becomes a shared community destination where families can play and exercise side by side, supporting movement, community connection, and repeat visits across generations.
