Leon Day Playground
Themed Play That Honors Local Hall of Famer
West Baltimore's Leon Day Park is a historic green space with sports fields, trails, and a playground. The park is named in honor of Leon Day, a Baltimore baseball pitcher in the Negro Leagues and a 1995 inductee in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Known for his fastball and an impressive record of strikeouts, Day was a seven-time All-Star in his 10-year career before eventually settling back in his hometown.
When the City of Baltimore wanted to improve the aging playground equipment at Leon Day Park in part of its 2022 "Rec Rollout" initiative, they wanted to create a unique, inclusive play space that honored its namesake's legacy. With two climbing domes, a play hut, and sports customizations in every corner, the City of Baltimore "brought it home" with an inclusive playground where everyone can play ball.

From the Big Leagues to T-Ball: Net Play for All Ages
A towering Explorer Dome energizes the heart of the playground, its web of climbing routes and hangout spots setting the tone for an action‑packed, sports‑inspired space. Nearby, the Mini Dome gives younger athletes their own arena to scramble, bounce, and find new routes of play. The “Concession Stand” Play Hut adds a fun sideline moment where kids can imagine ordering a snack ("Extra mustard for my hot dog, please!") and create their own stories. Bringing it home, the Basket Swing draws everyone in, offering big shared swings and bigger squeals of joy. The Leon Day Playground covers the bases in giving every age a way to play and jump in on the game.
