Kids as Creators: The Playground Ambassador Project

The new Jordanhill Primary School playground was brought to life through a uniquely collaborative process. The school’s "Playground Ambassadors"—two students from every grade, Primary 1 through Primary 7—took the lead in designing the space and selecting the equipment. Jordanhill proudly shares that this playground is designed by the children, for the children.

Spanning an early‑years area, an older‑children’s zone, and a dedicated sports area, the playground offers a wide variety of activities that cater to all ages and interests. From imaginative play to active movement and skill‑building challenges, there’s something for every child.

Curious how the school made it all happen? Watch the video below to learn how Jordanhill Primary funded the project—and how the new playground is transforming everyday life for their students.

Ship‑Ahoy!

At the heart of the Jordanhill Primary playground sits its standout centerpiece: a large themed play ship that immediately invites adventure. This vibrant vessel is packed with thrilling and varied activities that encourage active outdoor play, dramatic role‑play, and exploration, giving children a rich blend of physical and imaginative experiences.

Climbing elements help develop cross‑coordination and strengthen the cross‑modal perception that supports early reading skills. The nautical theme naturally sparks role‑play, boosting language development, social interaction, and cooperative play.

Below deck, children discover a cozy space featuring a funnel and numbers panel, which helps develop object permanence and early numeracy skills. The slide back to the ground delivers pure fun while helping build balance, core strength, and posture. Both elevated and ground‑level play panels offer hands‑on engagement that promotes thinking skills, turn‑taking, and creative problem‑solving.

This centerpiece ship doesn’t just enhance the playground—it anchors the entire play experience, giving Jordanhill students a destination that’s imaginative, inclusive, and development‑focused.
