SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

We used to run, walk, jump, crawl and climb as a natural activity. In the past, it was how we got most things done, through movement. The phrase ‘survival of the fittest’ was coined from fact, not fiction. Modern life has married much of our time to a screen and made us more sedentary whilst other technology has also eroded our physical activity. Obstacle courses take us back to our roots with natural movement for increased health and happiness. They are a challenge from the moment you start, a contest of you against yourself until you get to the end.

An obstacle course is not just a snap collection of activities. There needs to be a considered approach to ensure that the physical spread of exercises offers the most benefit in attaining the desired result. For instance, if your arms have been asked to work too hard just before you reach the Double Turbo Challenge, progress might be ‘grounded’. Frequently asked questions about our Obstacle Courses

 

What is the maximum time you can be on an obstacle course?

This is very much up to you. Much depends on the number of features, but remember you can always go around two, three, four times. You can break away for a sprint or a short run and then return to the obstacles – it’s your choice. However, we recommend that, as with all training regimes, that you set a sensible target. It is a target that can be adjusted to find the perfect level for development.  

 

What is the minimum equipment requirement that makes sense?

You need to have five different activities to ensure you cover the basics. You need equipment to meet the challenges of balance, jumping, crawling, climbing and overhead exercises.

 

How many people can participate at the same time?

Regardless of its size, the obstacle course can cope with numerous participants – you stagger their start times and as long as you agree which direction the challenge should be attempted, it should be a smooth operation. 

 

Do you have to be part of a team or club to take part?

Of course you can set your own individual challenge, but exercise is generally more enjoyable when it is shared with others.
