A structural change has been taking place in trade and industry in Munich since the 1970s: factory spaces are losing their original function and are becoming vacant for new uses. This also occurred to the former Agfa industrial estate. Due to its position and size, it offered great potential for the development of this urban district and for enhancing its status by becoming a modern residential district. Twelve hundred apartments with “exciting architecture” were built over a ten-hectare area.
Design demands of an equally high quality were placed on the play and recreation areas: a combination of “exciting design” and high levels of functionality. The Corocord Loop was the right choice here for remodelling the central open area into an activity zone. With its colour and the unusual, modern shape of an elongated steel pipe with multiple curves, the Loop is truly eye-catching. The fitted, swinging net surfaces with their wave-like course and numerous membrane areas as well as swinging rope lianas open up a wide range of opportunities for play and movement. The planners and developers of the Kompan Design Studio modified the shape of the equipment, thus facilitating an accurate fit in the area specified by the architects.
