Port Hedland is a dynamic town of 15,000 people located in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. The original inhabitants, the Karriyarra people, call the place Marapikurrinya for the hand shaped formation of the tidal creeks coming off the natural harbour. The lifestyle is relaxed and open. The Town's location on the ocean provides for a variety of aquatic leisure activities including superb fishing. Whales and nesting flatback turtles can be seen in season. Millstream and Karijini National Parks are within easy driving distance, while Broome and the Kimberley are also within reach.
There are two very exciting playgrounds located within Port Hedland; Cemetery Beach and Pretty Pool, and in keeping with the Town’s natural surrounding, location and commitment “To enhance social, environmental and economic well-being through leadership and working in partnership with the Community” there is something new for everyone here.
Children can climb to the top of the Lighthouse in a smooth spiraling movement, exploring the tactile panels and play switchers on the way. After checking for incoming ships they whoosh down the slide to report their findings to friends on the base level. Those opting for quick access up or down can take a short cut over the climbing wall for a more demanding route.
The Adara and Canopus are the popular Galaxy items that feature in Cemetery playground, where children start at the climbing net at one end and spacewalk their way through the three-dimensional design. A variety of challenging moving and spinning components are complimented with a several resting and socializing points.
Pretty Pool with its bright blue shade sails towering over the colourful Fort, its a place for movement, climbing, hanging, sliding and balancing. Even the youngest children can experiment with entering the Fort through the climbing net, with the overhead ladder and additional horizontal ropes requiring more coordination and determination. Access the highest platform from the nets or via play shells, and use the binoculars and megaphone to communicate closely with your surroundings.
