The history of KOMPAN

1970

Tom Lindhardt Wils and Hans Mogens Frederiksen establish the company Multikunst Legepladser I/S (Multiart Playgrounds). The name is subsequently changed to KOMPAN A/S.

The word KOMPAN is derived from the Danish word, kumpan, meaning 'Companion'.

1973
KOMPAN starts exporting playground equipment.

1979
The first sales subsidiary is founded in Germany.

1986
KOMPAN is listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.

1987
KOMPAN acquires Speelhout BV in Holland.

1991
KOMPAN acquires BigToys, Inc. in USA.

1992
KOMPAN INTERNATIONAL A/S is established.

1996
The majority of votes in KOMPAN INTERNATIONAL A/S are sold to KIRKBI INVEST A/S.

1997
KOMPAN INTERNATIONAL A/S merges with KOMPAN A/S with the KOMPAN A/S as the continuing company. On merging KOMPAN INTERNATIONAL A/S changes the name of the company to KOMPAN A/S. 

1998
KOMPAN launches the new and innovative product line KOMPAN GALAXY.

2001
The GALAXY line is extended and KOMPAN ELEMENTS is introduced.

2003
KOMPAN acquires the French company Sarl Sporadix and launches the Sporadix Multisport assortment under the name KOMPAN FREEGAME.

KOMPAN sells the BIGTOYS product line. BIGTOYS is now a part of the independent company BigToys, Inc.

2004/2005
Manufacturing and distribution of KOMPAN FREEGAME are relocated to Brno in the Czech Republic.

2005
KOMPAN's shareholders accept a takeover bid from Nordic Capital. As a consequence KOMPAN A/S is delisted from the Copenhagen Stock Exchange.

KOMPAN decides to move manufacturing and distribution of all product lines to the new production facility in the Czech Republic by the end of 2006. The company headquaters will remain in Ringe, Denmark.
