One Playground for All
Homo Ludens is the symbol of our philosophy: play is an important part of life. For children with disabilities this is just as true as it is for everyone else. This is the reason why we have always strived to make our playgrounds a place where children of different abilities can meet and play together - 'one playground for all '
is our motto. Our playgrounds offer challenges for all children regardless of their abilities and skills.
All Children Have a Right to Play
All children have the same basic needs and go through the same development stages. All children develop at different ages and sometimes the development even slows down or stops entirely. This, however, should not prevent anyone from getting access to playgrounds. Our aim is not to develop special play activities for disabled children, instead we believe in integration and variety. Play is the language that brings children of different abilities together. Through playing with others, children develop social skills and they learn about behaviour, communication, acceptance and friendship.
All Children Should Play Together
This means socialising with other children, learning from others, and having the opportunity to play together on equal terms regardless of abilities. Playgrounds should be a place that encourages children to meet and interact with other children as well as a place to play on their own without being on their own.
We Know How to Lend a Helping Hand
Children's development is best stimulated by play based on interaction of body and senses. We construct our equipment so that children of all abilities can play on it. KOMPAN equipment is provided with a variety of gripping possibilities such as handholds and ropes and some have transfer systems.
Disability Discrimination Act (1995)
The introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act places a responsibility on providers to ensure that all public open spaces, including play areas, are accessible to as many people with different abilities as possible. KOMPAN play equipment is designed to be inclusive and accessible to help ensure providers' responsibilities are met.
