- IPA and KOMPAN
KOMPAN and the International Play Association (IPA) have made an agreement of cooperation.
The basis for this cooperation is that IPA and KOMPAN build on the same profound respect for the child’s right to play based on thorough knowledge of the child’s need to play.
The objective is that this will lead to a fruitful co-operation internationally as well as locally, to promote the awareness of the need of room, time and possibilities to play for our children.
IPA and KOMPAN both have a worldwide presence.
The IPA was founded in 1963 to promote free play world wide. Nowadays the IPA has grown into an Non Governmental Organisation spanning play workers, researchers and members generally interested in play in 52 countries, having an advisory role to UNICEF. The IPA supports the UN declaration of the Rights of the Child, and will support that:
"The child shall have full opportunity to play and recreation, which should be directed to the same purposes as education; society and the public authorities shall endeavour to promote the enjoyment of this right".
KOMPAN is the leading international innovator within outdoor play solutions. KOMPAN’s credo is that “every human being is unique and has the right to play”.
Within KOMPAN the knowledge centre for children’s playing, learning and development, KOMPAN PLAY INSTITUTE, is a very important factor. KOMPAN PLAY INSTITUTE watches and investigates research of children’s conditions and circumstances.
The cooperation with will formally start with KOMPAN financially supporting the tri-annual IPA world congress in Berlin as global partner in July 2005 and will run till the next world congress of IPA in 2008.
The KOMPAN PLAY INSTITUTE will participate in the IPA world congress in Berlin and in the future be represented in the council of IPA. After the conference the aim is to strengthen the role of KOMPAN as well as IPA through a mutual support. The IPA future plans involve an IPA expert committee of play researchers world wide of which the KOMPAN PLAY INSTITUTE will be an active part.
