International School of Amsterdam



The International School of Amsterdam is a role model for modern schoolyards, offering not only play but learning experiences for its pupils. The buildings are designed by Albers Van Huut, Amsterdam, and the school play areas by the pupils, parents and teachers together with Jan Ooms from KOMPAN Play Institute.

 



A view of the inner yard show a highly active area for 2-12 year olds with lots of sense stimulation and cause and effect play.


Here is a view of the 2-4 year olds fenced play area with thematic play items in the right size additional possibilities for manipulative play in the sand area.


The outer court introduces thematic play for the older children. The pirate theme sparks the imagination and the sand play area has lots of cause and effect play. Please note the swing area being sheltered by hedges to prevent accidents.


A closer look at the pirate play area shows a wide variety of popular play activities such as a climbing, sliding and role-playing.

 



Young children totally absorbed in the flow experience of play.


Sand play is the number one priority of all ages.
